Art, science and nature
If you love art, history, science, nature or shopping, the city of Trento has an incredible amount to offer in every month of the year.
The heart of city life is the picturesque square with its Romanesque-Gothic cathedral surrounded by magnificent ancient buildings. This is the perfect set-off point to explore the most beautiful, distinctive streets of Trento, and the frescoed Renaissance buildings, porticoes, cafés, historic boutiques and chic stores which make up the classic walks in the city, known as the “giro al Sass” – the “walk around the cobblestones.”
The impressive, enthralling Castello del Buonconsiglio, emblem of the city, is an unmissable attraction if you want to take a leap back in time to the Trento of bygone days. The wonderful frescoes, a stroll along the battlements, the Torre Aquila and the romantic loggia with its superb panoramic views are guaranteed to delight all visitors, adults and kids alike.
If you love all things science, don’t miss a trip to MUSE, the futuristic science museum designed by Renzo Piano which narrates the story of mountains, nature, technology and sustainability in an easy-to-understand, engaging style that appeals to all ages.
In Trento and its surrounding area, nature is another star of the show, and provides masses of fun family activities. Three walking trails lead to the peak of the Doss Trento which, in addition to providing a magnificent view of the city from its lush green terrace, is also a natural park overflowing with historical remains. The cable car trip to the belvedere di Trento viewpoint also makes for a thrill-packed, panoramic outing. Yet another destination for carefree adventures with your children is the spectacular Orrido di Ponte Alto canyon, accessible via walkways and steps, and culminating in a stroll behind a thundering 40-metre-high waterfall.
The Panorama Hotel Brenta Dolomites is also an excellent set-off point for numerous other places of interest in the region, from the southern banks of Lake Garda to the Valle dei Laghi, the Pinè mountain plateau and the Valsugana.
