Skiing on Monte Bondone yesteryear and today
In far-back 1935 when skiing was still very much a niche sport, the first ski lift in Trentino—and one of the first in Europe—was built right here on Monte Bondone. A precursor of modern-day lifts, the “big sledge” was a pulley system which transported skiers from Vaneze to Mugon. 1941 saw the construction of a new ski lift which soared up the slopes of the Palon from Vason, where the Brenta Dolomites stands today. In the 1950s, the first international ski races were held in the area, including the celebrated 3Tre and the legendary Trofeo Topolino for promising young skiers.
Today, Monte Bondone is an exceptionally well-equipped ski resort and a popular skiing destination for families, boasting 70 hectares of skiing terrain, 20 km of wide, safe, perfectly-groomed slopes and 4 modern chairlifts, one of which is just 300 metres from the Panorama Hotel Brenta Dolomites.
The ski resort is also home to 5 excellent cross-country trails, a fun snow park and a school slope complete with kids’ club and 3 magic carpets for young skiers.
Completing the array of facilities are a cross-country centre in Viote with beautiful loop routes leading through a magnificent natural setting, winter hikes and snowshoeing expeditions.
The slopes
Monte Bondone offers 14 slopes to suit all tastes, 3 of which are easy and 11 intermediate. The most famous is, undoubtedly, the Gran Pista Rocce Rosse which, at a length of almost 4 km and a drop of 800 metres, is served with a 4-seater cable car and is one of Trentino’s most beloved slopes. This thrill-packed, challenging descent is a guarantee of an incredible adrenalin kick and breathtaking views of the Brenta Dolomites.
The slopes of the Monte Bondone ski resort have a number of common traits: fabulous views, an abundance of space, excellent grooming and planned snowmaking. They appeal to a wide range of skiers in terms of both age and needs, from families to the super-sporty, and experts to beginners. This mesmerising countryside, at the foot of the Tre Cime di Bondone (Three Peaks of Bondone) and in view of the Brenta Dolomites, boasts over 30 km of trails in varying levels of difficulty, groomed for both classic and freestyle cross-country skiing. Your kids will have a world of fun in the superb all-wood games field and the much-loved bobsleigh and sledging slope.
